Cloud Computing Services

Cloud computing service is the new emerging IT trend of last few years. Cloud computing refers to using a third party network of remote servers hosted on the internet to store and manage all your data and services rather than locally. Cloud computing makes the utility computing possible with pay-as-you-go, infinitely scalable, universally available system. With cloud computing you can start as small and can grow big very rapidly.

You can describe cloud computing as an applications or services that runs on distributed network through virtualized resources. You can access and use these cloud services via common internet protocols and networking standards. There have been various cloud types have been defined. There are two different classes of clouds are:

1.       Clouds based on deployment model
2.       Clouds based on service model

Deployment Model Clouds:  Public Cloud, Private Cloud, Community Cloud, and Hybrid Clouds are the main deployment model clouds.

Service Model Clouds: Software as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Infrastructure as a Service are the main Service model clouds and we can call this model as SPI model.

 Softwareas a Service (SaaS): SaaS is a complete operating environment with installed applications, management, and the user interface. Some SaaS cloud service providers are:
i)        GoogleApps
ii)       Oracle On Demand
iii)     SalesForce.Com
iv)     SQL Azure

Platform as a Service (PaaS): It provides virtual machines, operating systems, applications, services, deployment frameworks, transactions, and control structures. PaaS service adds integration features, middleware, and other orchestration and choreography services to the IaaS. Some PaaS Service providers are:
i)        Force.Com
ii)       GoGrid Cloud Center
iii)     Google AppEngine
iv)     Windows Azure Platform

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): These services provide virtual machines, virtual storage, virtual infrastructure, and other hardware assets as resources. Some IaaS service providers are:

ii)       Eucalyptus
iii)     GoGrid
iv)     FlexiScale
v)      Linode
vi)     RackSpace Cloud
vii)   Terremark

Essential characteristics of cloud computing are:

1)      On-demand self-service
2)      Broad network access
3)      Resource pooling
4)      Rapid elasticity
5)      Measured service
6)      Pay-As-You-Use
7)      Secure Storage Management
8)      Highly Automated
9)      Device And Location Independent
10)   24 X 7 Support

So, cloud computing provides many great benefits and attracted industry and general interests. Using cloud computing you can create systems cheaply with little upfront cost and to be scaled to large size.
